Durham, N.C., debates opting out of the common core

Two school board members in Durham, N.C., are urging officials to slow their adoption of the Common Core State Standards, saying a rushed decision could harm students. Others, however, said the standards will improve the education of the district's minority students. Superintendent Eric Becoats questioned what the consequences of opting out of the common core would be, saying it could cost the district some state funding.
