Food trade groups oppose proposed user fees for inspections

Several trade groups representing meat, poultry and egg producers sent a letter to a U.S. congressional committee on debt reduction to voice concerns about a proposal that would require them to pay user fees for food-facility inspections. The groups called the proposal "a food safety tax on consumers and not just a fee on processors."
