Type 2 diabetes markers may appear a decade before diagnosis

Data from a Dutch study showed those who developed type 2 diabetes in 1996 and 2000 had elevated levels of blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin in 1989. The researchers, reporting at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting, also found levels rise rapidly in the few years before diagnosis, with an increase in HbA1c often preceding an increase in glucose.
