FRA approves work on initial segment of Calif.'s $68B high-speed rail

The Federal Railroad Administration has approved construction of the 65-mile, Merced-to-Fresno section of California's $68 billion, high-speed rail project. "We are now poised to move forward and break ground next year," California High-Speed Rail Authority CEO Jeff Morales said. However, the project that would create an 800-mile rail network still faces legal challenges that could interfere with construction.
