Asian markets advance strongly

Asian markets generally got a strong lift in Thursday trading after the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision Wednesday to maintain its bond-buying program at $85 billion a month. "It's taper off, risk on," said Keith Poore, head of investment strategy at AMP Capital Investors in New Zealand. The Nikkei surged 1.80% on the news, ending the day at 14,766.18, the Hang Seng jumped 1.67% to 23,502.51 and the S&P/ASX advanced 1.10% to 5,295.50 while the Kospi slipped 0.39% to 2,005.58.
