Consumers embrace store brands as quality improves

A survey of U.S. shoppers by Consumer Edge Insight notes a "sea change" in perception of private-label products, as quality and packaging improve. Continued growth is expected in categories including non-organic milk, bottled water, trash bags, canned vegetables and pasta, in which "low price is important and where store brand quality is good and/or rising," President David Decker said.
