Does testing overlook the importance of long-term learning?

While much attention is paid to students' short-term learning, some of the most significant lessons may take a longer time to sink in, eighth-grade English teacher Ariel Sacks writes in this blog post. The focus on the short-term effect of teaching, which can be measured through standardized tests, is "misguided," Sacks writes. "It misunderstands the nature of the teacher-student relationship and the role of experience in deep learning," she notes.
