Federal agencies launch ACA fraud prevention, health privacy initiative

HHS, the Attorney General's office, and the Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday announced the launch of a new initiative that focuses on privacy protection and fraud prevention and detection for the coming health insurance exchanges. "We have strong security safeguards in the marketplace to protect people's personal information against fraud and we will work with our partners to aggressively prosecute bad actors, just as we have been doing in Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program," HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement. The agencies have set up a toll-free number for fraud reports through the Marketplace Call Center, a centralized complaint database and a "rapid response" mechanism in the event of a data breach.
