Group calls for disclosures by governments on surveillance requests

The Global Network Initiative, which includes human rights groups, tech companies and privacy advocates, is calling on 21 countries involved in the Freedom Online Coalition to ease restrictions on government-surveillance data requests so they can share the information with users and customers. The move follows efforts by Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Yahoo to disclose such data requests.
