Social networking leads smartphone growth in Japan

Smartphone penetration in the Japanese market is likely to grow from 27.7% last year to 60.2% next year, according to a projection by eMarketer. Currently, younger generations dominate in smartphone usage, with more than 75% of users between the ages of 15 and 19 owning the devices and more than 70% of ages 20 to 29. The younger set access social networking almost entirely on their smartphone, eMarketer reported.
