Army awards design contracts for tilt-rotor aircraft

Bell Helicopter Textron and Boeing won a U.S. Army contract to design a four-engine, tilt-rotor aircraft for the military. One analyst called the contract a "milestone on the road to tilt-rotor acceptance." Four other bidders received similar contracts. Bell and Boeing make the V-22 Osprey, a tilt-rotor aircraft. The Pentagon is expected to approve full production of the aircraft soon.
