Chicago tests new mentoring program for rookie teachers

Eight struggling Chicago schools are launching a program that assigns new teachers to mentor coaches, who will work with the novices over the school year, then make a recommendation whether they should be retained or fired. If its four-year test proves successful, the program could expand to other district schools.
