Many college admissions officials believe scrapping the early admissions system, as Harvard University just announced it will soon do, could have unintended consequences, writes Washington Post education columnist Jay Mathews. After listing six reasons to keep the system, Mathews concludes the real problem is not that too many students are allowed to apply early -- it's that too many students wait too long to begin the search process.
