Study: Current treatment extends colon cancer patients' lives

Researchers performed a meta-analysis of 242 studies and found that irinotecan, oxaliplatin and molecular-targeted therapies can help extend the lives of patients with advanced colorectal cancer by several months compared to those who received older treatment regimens. However, experts cautioned that such drug combinations may also cause serious side effects, including gastrointestinal perforation.
