Ala. city's mayor supports proposal for algae facility

Mayor Tony Petelos of Hoover, Ala., supports the SouthEast Region Algae Consortium's application for a $45 million federal grant to fund a proposed algae-to-fuel demonstration facility in the city. The consortium, with Ohio-based Phycal, plans to build the advanced-biofuels demonstration plant near a wastewater-treatment facility. The technology at the plant could be useful in treating the city's wastewater, Petelos said.
