California youths choose gastric banding for weight loss

A study in Pediatrics found the rate of adjustable-gastric-banding procedures among California adolescents ages 13 to 20 increased sevenfold from 2005 to 2007, despite the procedure not being approved for children by the Food and Drug Administration. Study data showed the increase was accompanied by a decline in conventional stomach-bypass procedures.
