Report: Civics education is lacking

Schools need to do more to teach students about American democracy and civics, according to a report co-authored by groups including the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools. "Knowledge of our system of governance and our rights and responsibilities as citizens is not passed along through the gene pool," write former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind., who co-chair that group.
