Fla. roofing company copes with worker shortage as rules hamper hiring

The lack of skilled labor has hampered projects for roofing companies and other construction contractors in Florida's Sarasota County, according to this article. The shortage of skilled workers has prevented general contractors from bidding and small subcontractors from taking on new jobs. Sutter Roofing retained its workforce during the weak economy in anticipation of the labor shortage, but regulations such as the E-Verify rule and the Affordable Care Act could hinder it from hiring additional workers, said Doug Sutter, vice president of the company.
