Statin therapy may increase risk of cataracts

A study published in JAMA Ophthalmology showed statin users had about a 27% greater risk of developing cataracts than nonusers. The risk of developing the eye condition increased with the length of usage, researchers found. The findings should encourage patients to discuss the risks and benefits of taking statins with their providers, lead researcher Ishak Mansi said.
