T-Mobile, Sprint also say no thanks to a Canadian auction

Sprint and T-Mobile US have opted out of participating in Canada's auction of 700 Mhz wireless spectrum, the carriers confirmed on Thursday, joining Verizon Wireless in that decision. AT&T has not commented on its plans, although one analyst predicted the carrier will not take part. The Canadian government has set a Tuesday deadline for telecoms to submit their plans for the auction. Scotia Capital telecom analyst Jeff Fan told clients the U.S. carriers decided the Canadian market carries too large of a risk when compared with the expected reward in a likely competitive auction and want to focus on their U.S. networks.
