U.S. beer sales decline for the first time in seven years

In 2003, 2.8 billion cases of beer were shipped in the U.S., down 0.3% from the previous year. Industry insiders attribute the decline to the popularity of low-carb diets, increased wine and spirits consumption and cooler summers. Sales of light beers, especially those offering low-carbs, increased 3.6%.
