FDA approves SOLX laser for glaucoma treatment

The FDA has given 510(k) clearance for the SOLX 790 laser, which is designed for use in titanium-sapphire laser trabeculoplasty. The device reduces intraocular pressure in patients suffering from primary open angle glaucoma. The laser works by releasing energy pulses deep into the tissue to loosen particles in the trabecular meshwork without causing major thermal injury.
