Studies support virtual colonoscopy, longer screening intervals

One study showed virtual colonoscopies were successful in detecting 90% of tumors at least 10 millimeters in diameter, although a standard colonoscopy would still be needed to remove the polyps. The second study found that for low-risk adults with no adenomas on a baseline colonoscopy, the five-year incidence of neoplasia is low enough that follow-up screening intervals could be extended to 10 years for some patients.
