Expense of special-education center makes it a target for budget cuts

A learning center that provides special-education services to preschool children in Illinois is often the subject of possible budget cuts because of the cost of running it. The center serves children ages 3 to 5 who have been identified as disabled, developmentally delayed or at risk. "It is a vital program, but it is one of our most costly because of the number of services and teachers we provide," a school district official said.
