Michigan bill would require state contractors to use E-Verify

Legislation proposed in Michigan would require all contractors and subcontractors on state jobs to use the E-Verify system to check the legal status of their workers. E-Verify is already required in nine states. The Michigan bill, proposed by state Rep. David Agema, is under consideration by the House Judiciary Committee. Some groups oppose the measure, noting that identity fraud issues continue to affect the E-Verify system.
