Retailers warn against compulsory charge for plastic bags

As Wales strives to reduce its carbon footprint, the British Retail Consortium has warned that introducing a mandatory charge for plastic, single-use shopping bags would be a "disproportionate and draconian response". The Welsh Assembly Government plans to introduce a mandatory charge as part of an effort to battle climate change.
