Scottish hospitals seeing shortage in platelet supply

Hospitals in Scotland currently are facing a shortage in platelets owing to the increase in aggressive and regular cancer treatments that led to more demand for the blood component. The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service has launched a campaign that aims to increase the number of active platelet donors from the current 1,550 to at least 2,020 by year's end.
