Sharp drop in Las Vegas room rates spurs planners to negotiate

Room rates for some conferences and conventions are negotiated a year or two in advance, leaving some "rooms around the block" in Las Vegas at rates higher than current offerings, observers say. This has prompted some convention planners to renegotiate contracts signed more than a year ago. "An empty room can't gamble, so you fill it at any price," Brian Stevens, president of a Los Angeles booking firm, said.
