Venerable Empire State Building gets energy upgrade

The owner of the 1931 vintage Empire State Building is positioning the landmark to be at the cutting edge of the trend to retrofit old commercial buildings to slash energy costs. The concept is quickly gaining broad acceptance. The Chicago building that for most of its history was known as the Sears Tower is set to receive a $350 million energy-efficiency overhaul that is expected to reduce its energy consumption by 80%.
