How providers can prepare for ACOs

CMS has yet to issue details on accountable care organization pilot projects that the government is sponsoring nationwide, but the American Medical Association is emphasizing physician autonomy and flexibility in the ACOs and says quality measures must be reliable, objective and patient risk-adjusted. Experts say physicians should think about changes their practice may need to make to prepare for the final rules, such as identifying areas of high costs and ways to better manage them.
