New book details successful rehab of former fighting dogs

The team assigned to work on rehabilitating 47 of the 49 pit bulls confiscated from Michael Vick's fighting compound succeeded well beyond their expectations, according to a new book from author Jim Gorant. The national case put a spotlight on the breed, and offered animal behaviorists the rare chance to immerse themselves in the rehab process. The result: Many of the dogs now have new lives as family pets, while the others continue to live in peace at sanctuaries.
