Study links metabolic syndrome to heart events, stroke

A review of 87 studies showed that patients with metabolic syndrome had a twofold or greater risk of heart complications, heart attack or stroke and a 50% increased risk of dying from any cause. The study also showed the detrimental health effects of metabolic syndrome were stronger in women than men, but researchers said they were unsure of why.
