Kindle library lending goes live

Amazon is now offering Kindle owners the ability to borrow e-books via a service that grants access to titles at more than 11,000 U.S. libraries. The service -- which was announced about five months ago -- is powered by OverDrive and features Amazon's Whispersync technology, allowing readers to highlight and make notes that are backed up for future reference. The company may be betting that giving users access to free content will help increase device sales, some observers say.
