Polio creeps into China from Pakistan, WHO confirms

The World Health Organization has confirmed that seven polio cases -- the first reported incidences of the disease there in more than a decade -- have been detected in the western Xinjiang province of China, which borders Pakistan. The type 1 strain of the disease is suspected of migrating into China from Pakistan, where so far 83 people have been infected with the strain this year, according to the Global Eradication Initiative, a WHO project.
