GOP senators say they may have to compromise on taxes if Obama wins

An Obama victory would force the GOP to compromise on tax hikes in order to defuse the budget bomb, senior Republicans and Democrats say. Senior GOP leaders, including tea-party leader Sen. Jim DeMint, now say that allowing tax increases might be the only way to avoid steep cuts to defense spending. "When Jim DeMint is suddenly open to revenues, you know the tide is turning," said Senate Democratic Policy Committee Chairman Charles Schumer.
