Price of Georgia's teacher incentive program spiraling

The cost of a Georgia program to pay teachers extra for national board certification has jumped from $100,000 in fiscal year 2000 to $15.6 million next year, as the number of teachers achieving the certification climbs. Legislators concerned about the rising costs are reluctant to revamp the bonus program during an election year.
