Calif. city faces flak for removing 63 mature trees

Palo Alto residents expressed dismay when the Public Works Department removed 63 mature holly oak trees without notifying the public. The removal of the trees was part of a streetscape plan, but the department failed to observe a 14-day waiting period or inform the City Council. "It was clearly a major procedural mistake, and a major public relations mistake," said Glenn Roberts, public works director.
