Economic indicators reach highest level since January 2008

The Conference Board index of leading economic indicators increased 0.6% to 102.5 in August, the highest level since January 2008, after a 0.9% improvement in July. The data suggest the recession is ending, but a sharp rise in the number of mortgage defaults indicates recovery might be weak.
