Experimental drug is shown to reduce stroke damage in mice

British scientists say they have identified an enzyme that is responsible for nerve cell damage in stroke patients and are testing an experimental drug that has dramatically reduced post-stroke brain damage in mice. The researchers are doing further testing and have hopes that the drug could eventually prove helpful for human stroke patients.
