Australia OKs Chevron's Wheatstone LNG plan with conditions

Australia's Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities approved on Thursday Chevron's planned Wheatstone liquid natural gas project, but the company must comply with 70 environmental conditions, said Environment Minister Tony Burke. Chevron would have to submit its plans on how to minimize the project's "impacts on protected" wildlife, Burke said. The project, which is set to be operational by 2016, is a joint venture between Chevron, Apache, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration and Royal Dutch Shell.
