Underwater treadmill provides physical therapy for dogs

Underwater treadmills, available to veterinarians for about $60,000, aid canine patients in many ways such as post-surgery rehabilitation and treatment of chronic arthritis and soft tissue ailments. The treadmill is encased in water so the dog's body is submerged. "Fighting through the water helps [the dogs] build muscle," said certified canine rehabilitator Harlan McLaughlin.
