India central bank raises key rate

With inflation foremost on the new governor's agenda, India's central bank surprised markets with a quarter-point rate increase Friday. Markets plunged on the news, but Governor Raghuram Rajan said, "To the extent that we can anchor inflationary expectations, we can create a sense of stability in the value of the currency, [and] the economy is actually better off from a growth perspective."
