Study shows environmental benefits of algae-based biofuel

Biofuel made from algae can produce half or less of the carbon emissions associated with fossil fuels, according to a peer-reviewed study that used data from Sapphire Energy's facilities in New Mexico. The technology, at commercial scale, could produce biofuels with an energy return on investment approaching that of fossil fuels and triple that of cellulosic ethanol, the study found.
