Spirits maker, retailers among those indicted in fund-raising case

A Texas grand jury handed down 32 indictments including those for Bacardi USA, Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Cracker Barrel, along with five other corporations, in connection with allegations of illegal donations to a political action committee associated with House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas. DeLay, who charged that the indictments were politically motivated, was not named in the indictments, which relate to alleged illegal corporate contributions to state legislative candidates. Bacardi did not return calls seeking comment; both Cracker Barrel and Sears said they believe all their contributions were legal.
