AvalonBay sued for disabled access violations

Alexandria, Va.-based developer AvalonBay Communities Inc., faces a federal civil lawsuit claiming the company built 100 apartment complexes around the nation that are not accessible to people with disabilities. Among problems detailed in the suit are thresholds that are too high for wheelchair users to enter and bathrooms and kitchens that do not have enough space for people in wheelchairs to maneuver.
