Maryland grapples with road construction funding backlog

A state budget crisis is slowing new road improvement projects in Maryland, and a 10-year backlog of unfunded road projects has reached $40 billion, according to transportation officials. Due to inflation in building costs, the budget would need to increase by at least $400 million annually to meet construction needs, according to the state's transportation secretary, John D. Porcari.
