Calif. tribe objects to expansion of Shasta Dam

The Native American tribe of Winnemen Wintu lost 90% of its land in 1945 when the U.S. government built Shasta Dam. Now, tribe members are objecting to a plan to expand Shasta Dam because it will flood 22 miles of sacred land. The Winnemen Wintu tribe numbers 122 members today, compared to 20,000 who once lived by the banks of the McCloud River.
