FAA approves Delta-Northwest plan to combine operations

Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines have received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for their plans to transition to a single operating certificate. The carriers expect to receive regulatory approval for their pending merger by the end of the year. Shareholders of both airlines are set to vote on the agreement this week.
