Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines have received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for their plan to transition to a single operating certificate. "Acceptance of our plan lays the groundwork for a smooth transition of our operations," said Ken Hylander, a senior vice president at Northwest. "Our ultimate goal is to implement a seamless transition for our customers and this is a big step toward that end." The carriers expect to receive regulatory approval for their merger by the end of the year.
