Temple complexes of Tamil Nadu offer peek into Hinduism

Tamil Nadu, one of India's 28 states, features many ancient temple complexes, reminders of the continuous presence of Hindu gods. Visitors to any city in Tamil Nadu will notice the gopuras, soaring entrances to the temples decorated with Hindu statues of gods, warriors and beasts. "Here, we have a proverb: 'Where there is a temple, people can live,' " said Ram Kumar, a tour guide. "The temple is the center of a person's living space." Along with the temples, Tamil Nadu also features some of the most flavorful cuisine in India, beaches and farmland.
